In God We Trust | Why Biblical Authority Matters for Every Believer
Do you know why you believe in Christ?
If challenged by a skeptic, would you be able to give a satisfying answer? We must grasp actual reasons that matter in our lives. It’s not just about defending the faith, or even simply about winning the lost. It is about an intimately personal worship of a God we can truly call Father.
Steve Ham gets to the heart of why biblical authority matters, how it is displayed in God’s character, and how that authority must impact our daily Christian lives. True commitment to the Creator’s loving authority inevitably impacts us to the core, and helps us in such diverse areas as; family, worship, the way we view and interact at church, and even how we share the Good News of Christ’s redeeming love with others!
Join David Rives (host) as he welcomes Dr. Robert Carter to this episode of “Creation in the 21st Century” titled: “Seven Billion People – Six Thousand Years” One of the most popular arguments for millions of years of Earth history is the subject of human population. If the global flood of Noah’s day ended around only 4.500 years ago, is that enough time to produce the numbers of people that we have on earth today? Dr. Robert Carter and David Rives ‘crunch the numbers’ and look at some revealing statistics that show that the current human population could easily have been produced within the Biblical time frame of thousands of years….not millions.
Join David Rives (host) as he welcomes Dr. Terry Mortenson to this episode of “Creation in the 21st Century titled: “Intelligent Design vs. The Intelligent Design Movement” Dr. Terry Mortenson and David Rives discuss the potential dangers that arise when we non-specifically attribute Creation to an intelligent designer. When we present evidences for Creation in the world around us, we should always be careful to attribute that creation to “The Intelligent Designer” – The God of the Bible.
Join David Rives (host) as he welcomes ministry friend, James Worrell to this episode titled: “Biology & The Bible.” What is DNA and what does it tell us about a Designer, God? Using excerpts from his popular powerpoint presentation called: “Bible Knows Best”, David Rives is the featured speaker on this unique episode. David presents awe-inspiring facts about human design and chats with James Worrell about the fact that we as human beings are not the result of random chance evolution….we are created in the image of God!
Dr Carter was converted to Christ at an early age, but did not know what to do with the theory of evolution. He always knew what he wanted to believe, but had no way to express what he was thinking and no evidence to support his views. In his freshman year of college, he was exposed to the information for creation for the first time and soon after adopted it as his modus operandi. He says he felt a tremendous joy when he realized his science and his religion were no longer at odds. This joy (and, he says, Creation magazine and the Journal of Creation) enabled him to get through the in-depth evolutionary training of his undergraduate and graduate programs with his faith intact.
He obtained a BS in Applied Biology from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992. He then spent four years teaching high school biology, chemistry, physics and electronics before going to the University of Miami to obtain his PhD in Marine Biology. He successfully completed this program in 2003 with a dissertation on “Cnidarian Fluorescent Proteins.” While in Miami, he studied the genetics of pigmentation in corals and other invertebrates, designed and built an aquaculture facility for Caribbean corals, performed well over 500 SCUBA dives, many of them at night, and licensed a spin-off product of his research (a patented fluorescent protein) to a biotech company.
He is currently a senior scientist and speaker for CMI-USA in Atlanta, Georgia, where he lives with his wife, Leanne, and children and is currently researching human genetics and other issues related to biblical creation.

Terry grew up in a church-going family. But it wasn’t until the spring of 1972 during his first year at university that he trusted Christ as his Lord and Savior through the witness of a staff member of Campus Crusade for Christ. A few weeks later he encountered two books by Henry Morris and Duane Gish exposing the lie of evolution and millions of years and from then on started reading everything he could on the subject.
During his summer assignment on Campus Crusade staff in 1979 he heard a lunch-time lecture on creation and evolution by John Baumgardner (before John had studied for his PhD in geophysics and became a well-known creation scientist). Terry asked John if he could purchase a copy of his 35mm slides and the manuscript of his lecture. Armed with this resource, Terry started speaking on the subject. During his nearly ten years of covert missionary work in communist Czechoslovakia (1980–1989), he had only one opportunity to give that lecture, but it and the slides were translated into Czech and used by others in the country. Over the years Terry continued to study the scientific evidence in confirmation of the truth of Genesis.
Having read a lot of creationist scientific literature over the previous 15+ years, while he was in seminary (1989–1992) he used every course he could to deepen his understanding of the biblical and theological side of the origins debate and his ability to refute various compromise views in the church. He also had a few opportunities to speak on the subject. His PhD studies (1992–1996) gave him time to study more deeply the historical and philosophical roots of this controversy and to speak in a few schools and churches. During these years Answers in Genesis also became aware of his research, which later led to an invitation to join AiG staff as a speaker.
After receiving his PhD in 1996 he moved his growing family to Hungary where he served on a Campus Crusade team providing biblical and theological education for Campus Crusade staff all over Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. In the courses he taught he had many more opportunities to teach and defend the truth of Genesis 1–11 and was also able to give some public lectures in secular universities in a number of those countries. Just before he left Campus Crusade to join AiG in 2001, he had his first formal debate with an evolutionist—the head of the biology department at the University of Tirana in Albania.

Like most people, Dr. Mortenson grew up in an education system that taught evolution as fact. During his first year at the University of Minnesota (where he majored in math) and shortly after becoming a Christian, he began to see the fallacy of the idea of millions of years of evolution.
With a PhD in history of geology from Coventry University in England and an MDiv from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois, Dr. Mortenson has lectured on the creation-evolution controversy in 25 countries since the late 1970s. He has spoken in homes, churches, schools (primary, middle and secondary), secular universities, Bible colleges, and seminaries. Several of his popular lectures have been produced as DVDs and as TV programs. He has also participated in seven formal debates with PhD evolutionary scientists in secular venues in four countries.
He is the author of numerous magazine and journal articles and several book chapters.
He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society, has presented seven creation-related papers at ETS annual meetings, and spearheaded the formation of the “Creation” study group sessions at the ETS annual meeting beginning in 2008. Since that same year he has also helped to lead annual by-invitation-only, seven-day rafts trips down the Colorado River through Grand Canyon for more than 180 seminary and Christian college professors and other key Christian leaders from over 90 institutions and 10 countries.
Terry and his wife, Margie, have been happily married since 1976 and have 5 daughters, 3 sons, and 11 grandchildren.
